William Faminoff

William Faminoff established his professional roots in Vancouver, British Columbia, where he’s spent the last 40 years as a versatile advocate and trusted corporate consultant. He has been a member in good standing of the Law Society of British Columbia since August 1, 1981. Since beginning his practice, he has purposefully moved beyond standard courtroom boundaries to create a diverse practice that addresses the unique challenges faced by private companies, entrepreneurs, and global investment groups. He believes that impactful legal counsel requires intimate knowledge of a client’s commercial goals, enabling him to deliver practical, results-driven guidance in various industries.

A major part of William’s career has focused on sports and entertainment law. He is a trusted advocate for elite athletes, musicians, and performers. During a transformative era in international athletics in the 1980s and 1990s, he navigated the legal,

contractual, and regulatory hurdles of bringing top international hockey players into the National Hockey League (NHL). His sports law practice includes significant matters such as his involvement in the Vancouver Canucks and Loui Eriksson contract mediation and settlement. This extensive work in high-profile environments naturally expanded into the creative industries, where he began advising entertainment clients on intellectual property, business structuring, and reputation management.

William has spent multiple years coordinating transactions in several jurisdictions, particularly in North America, Asia, Europe, and Latin America. His international portfolio includes helping families and corporate investors with cross-border immigration matters, as well as partnering with developers to structure major real estate, hospitality and infrastructure ventures.

For the past 25 years, he has also channelled his entrepreneurial experience into the tech industry, working with inventors and engineers to secure joint ventures and licensing agreements for emerging innovations focused on environmental sustainability and industrial efficiency.

William holds a law degree from Dalhousie University’s Schulich School of Law, where he balanced his legal education with competitive athletics, playing for the law faculty basketball team for three years. This lifelong passion for sports carried over into his community work, where he’s spent many years coaching and mentoring youth in teamwork and discipline.

Led by the philosophy that professional success carries a responsibility to give back, William is a fierce advocate for access to justice, consistently devoting his time to pro bono and reduced-fee legal services for individuals in challenging situations.
